- Slaidburn - a hidden Hodder Valley gem!
Slaidburn is a village of 300 or so inhabitants with most of the buildings owned by the Slaidburn Estate. Within the village is a well regarded (Ofsted good) primary school, housed in one of the oldest buildings in England offering forest school, before and after school club and many extra curricular clubs. Alongside the school, is the wonderful parish church of St Andrew, with the rectory opposite. For secondary schooling a free bus service is provided to the ofsted outstanding schools of Bowland High and Clitheroe Royal Grammar Schools.
Slaidburn has its own excellent health centre with pharmacy and nurse. The village hall hosts many regular and ad hoc activities with Brownies, guides, young farmers, W.I., Craft clubs, lunch club, Indoor bowling, flower arranging, craft fairs, dominoes and supper, yoga, drama group, to name a few! There is a regular programme of annual events including, a traditional May Queen festival, a June steam festival, July Bowland festival held alongside the traditional hay meadows designated a site of special scientific interest and the high light of the year in September, the Hodder Valley agricultural show!
